Gordon France
Painter

Gordon began painting full time in 2000 after retiring from the advertising business in Chicago.
Since then he has had successful one-man gallery exhibits and art shows in the midwest and east coast where
his paintings have won several show and gallery awards including Best Of Show and First Prize.
Gordon was awarded 3rd place in American Artist magazines 70th Anniversary watercolor competition
for his painting "Wrigley Rainout” and was the featured painter on the cover and and story in Watercolor magazine.
Two of his paintings chronicling American city life were chosen for a two year exhibit at the US Embassy in Sarajevo
as part of the State Department’s Art In Embassies program.
France’s favorite painting subjects are cityscapes, urban activity and sports or any subject
that depicts action and movement and gets the viewer involved.
The resulting work is anecdotal or narrative rather than decorative and in an impressionistic style.
Originally a watercolor painter, he has begun working in acrylics producing paintings from both on location and in studio.
Rather than subscribing to any painting philosophy, when considering a painting opportunity
he prefers Eric Wiegardt’s saying, “I can see what it is, what can it be?”
His paintings hang in private and corporate collections in the US, Canada, the UK and Italy.
